Ultrasound

An ultrasound is a non-invasive diagnostic imaging method used to visualize internal organs, soft tissues, and selected anatomical structures using high-frequency sound waves. In our clinic, ultrasound is performed exclusively for diagnostic purposes and is not used for pregnancy-related examinations.

The examination is carried out externally using a handheld transducer applied to the skin, allowing real-time images to be obtained during the procedure. An ultrasound may help identify structural changes, abnormalities, fluid collections, or other findings that require further medical evaluation. The examination does not involve radiation and is generally well tolerated.

An ultrasound may be used as part of the diagnostic evaluation of various medical conditions, depending on the patient’s symptoms and medical history.

When may an ultrasound be considered?

A diagnostic ultrasound may be considered:

  • to investigate unexplained symptoms such as pain, swelling, or palpable findings,

  • to evaluate internal organs or soft tissues when abnormalities are suspected,

  • to clarify or further assess findings identified during physical examination or laboratory testing,

  • to monitor known conditions or structural changes over time, when clinically indicated.

The decision to perform an ultrasound examination is made by a physician based on the patient’s symptoms, medical history, and clinical findings.

FAQ

Preparation for an ultrasound examination depends on the type and diagnostic scope of the procedure. Many ultrasound examinations do not require any special preparation. If specific measures are necessary prior to the test (such as fasting), the patient will receive appropriate instructions at the time of appointment scheduling.

An ultrasound examination typically takes between 10 and 30 minutes, depending on the scope of the study.

An ultrasound can identify suspicious masses or abnormal tissue that warrant further investigation, but it cannot definitively confirm cancer on its own. If needed, we follow up with additional imaging or biopsy to reach a diagnosis.
